What is a Medicare Advantage plan?
A Medicare Advantage Plan (like an HMO or PPO) is another form of getting your Medicare coverage. Medicare Advantage Plans are sometimes called “Part C” or “MA Plans.” They are offered by private companies that Medicare decides to approve.
If you decide to join a Medicare Advantage Plan, you will still have Medicare but you are going to get your Medicare Part A (Hospital Insurance) and Medicare Part B (Medical Insurance) coverage from the Medicare Advantage Plan, not Original Medicare. For the most part you will get your services from a plans network of providers.
Don’t forget that in most cases you must use the card from your Medicare Advantage Plan to get your Medicare-covered services. Make sure to keep your Medicare card in a safe place. If you ever switch back to Original Medicare, you’ll need it.
